Leveling up in NTE works differently from most gacha games. There are a lot of XP sources scattered across the world and the menus, and knowing which ones to prioritize makes a real difference in how fast you progress. More importantly, there is one level threshold that changes everything about how you should play, and most new players waste a lot of time before they understand it.
Here is everything you need to know.
Why Level 30 Is Your First Real Goal
Before anything else, understand this : you should be rushing to Hunter Level 30 as fast as possible.

Level 30 is when Legendary (gold) gear and artifacts start dropping from dungeons. Before that point, dungeons only reward blue and purple rarity equipment, which you will replace almost immediately once you hit 30. Farming artifacts before level 30 is a complete waste of your Pixels (the stamina system in NTE).

Until you reach level 30, spend your Pixels exclusively on character elevation materials, weapon elevation materials, and skill upgrades. Do not touch artifact dungeons yet.
You will also encounter World Elevation Quests at levels 20, 40, and 50. These are required to increase your world level and improve the quality of rewards across the board, so do not skip them.
Every XP Source in NTE
Daily Quests : 1500 XP per day

The single best XP source in the game per time invested. Find them in your Exploration Guide and complete them every day without exception. Missing a day of dailies is the biggest mistake you can make early on.

Main Quests and Side Quests : 1000 to 1500 XP each

Progress through the main story (Episodes) and character side stories (Spin-offs) as much as possible. Side quests reward between 1000 and 1500 XP each, which adds up extremely fast in the early game. These also unlock new areas and activities, so there is no reason to skip them.
Exploration Guide Missions : 100 XP each

These are specific milestones like finishing combat tutorials or leveling up characters. Each one gives 100 XP, but the real value here is the bonus rewards : jades, annulites, and free copies of your main character. Do not ignore the Exploration Guide panel.
Anomaly Commissions : 160 to 300 XP each

This is the core open-world activity in NTE. Completing anomalies scattered across the map gives :
| Anomaly Tier | XP Reward |
|---|---|
| 2-star | 160 XP |
| 3-star | 200 XP |
| 4-star | 300 XP |
Note : High-Risk Commissions do not give XP. They reward resources like annulites, but if your only goal right now is rushing to level 30, skip them for now and stick to regular anomalies.
Blue Quests : 250 to 400 XP

Small tasks spread across the map, like turning on lights or interacting with objects. Some only give money, but others reward between 250 and 400 XP. Worth doing while you explore naturally.
Consuming Pixels (Resin) : 200 to 300 XP

Spending your stamina gives XP as a side reward. Running dungeons for materials gives 200 XP per run, and completing weekly challenges gives 300 XP. Remember : before level 30, only spend Pixels on elevation materials, not artifact farming.
City Tycoon : 300 to 500 XP per level

The Tycoon mode involves shop management and lifestyle activities. Each Tycoon rank gives 300 XP at early levels, scaling up to 500 XP per level later. Completing all 45 levels also rewards a free 5-star character named Chiz along with her signature weapon and all her copies.

Known blocker : You can get temporarily stuck in Tycoon progression if the game asks you to buy a specific item (a trilet) via the Hunter Exchange before that feature is unlocked on your account. This is a known progression blocker, not a bug. Just wait until Hunter Exchange unlocks and come back.
Unlocking Towers : 100 XP each

Activating signal towers on the map gives 100 XP per tower. Do these as you come across them while exploring.
Collecting Ravens : 200 XP per turn-in

Ravens are collectibles hidden across the map. Once you have found some, turn them in at the Witch's House to receive 200 XP per turn-in. Worth doing consistently during your exploration sessions.
Unlocking Phone Booths : 50 XP each

Phone booths are fast travel points that also heal your characters. Each new one you unlock gives 50 XP. Small individually, but they add up across the entire map.
Opening Chests : 10 to 20 XP each

Defeating monsters during map events spawns chests. Small chests give 10 XP and large chests give 20 XP. To find these events on the map, look for icons that resemble a dice or cube shape.

About Chiz : the Free 5-Star You Should Not Underestimate

Finishing all 45 levels of City Tycoon gives you Chiz, a free 5-star character, her signature weapon, and all her copies. She is extremely strong and capable of clearing the hardest end-game content in the game solo. She just takes time to understand.
Verdict : Do not rush through City Tycoon carelessly — this is a free S-rank with full constellation. Even if you don't plan to main her, having Chiz fully built is a significant long-term advantage.
Quick Summary
